It’s probably a safe bet that none of your projects are going to change their color schemes every year. Still, there’s there’s value in being in touch with current color trends. After all, they are reflections of the current mindset, and what is design but a manifestation of the human condition?
The most popular paint companies each have their own picks for color of the year: Caliente for Benjamin Moore, Oceanside for Sherwin-Williams, and Ultra Violet for Pantone.
According to Leatrice Eiseman, Pantone’s executive director, Ultra Violet symbolizes the need for unity. Blue and red, Eiseman says, are two of the most diametrically opposed colors, and yet can come together to bring something new.
The company also hopes that blue and red, the colors used to designate America’s liberal and conservative politics, can become a more harmonious purple.
Ultra Violet aside, Pantone has also laid out color palettes that reflect current and enduring trends. Take a look at the infographic below.
