We continue our recap of ICFF 2016. This time we decided to highlight the funky and unique designs that can help spice up your interior project. Get inside to check out these out-of-box designs for some fresh ideas and inspiration.

1. Carl Durkow

durkow
This meditation rocking chair from young designer Carl Durkow could be the sort of statement piece you’re looking for in your design. It is up to you to decide what you see: feathers of a unique bird and petals of some exotic flower, but you will definitely feel cozy and relaxed in it.

2. Dana Finnigan

finnigan
Dana Finnigan’s works are a great example of how, through the use of surface patterning, traditionally mundane objects can be re-imagined into something special and unique.  She is constantly searching for new ways to express these objects aesthetically in order to make the space more engaging… an intersection of modern art and functional design. The Yama Urinal (above) is part of a bathroom suite of fixtures hand-painted with a print designed by Dana herself.

3. Indio Da Costa

indiodacosta
Indio Da Costa is a Brazil design company that produces elegant minimalist furniture. The Infinite Bench (above) soothes the viewer with its fluid lines and flawless surfacing. It is available in a few different sizes and finishes and would find its place in both modern offices and homes.

4. Valentine Herrenschmidt

valentineherrenschmidt
Valentine Herrensmidt lets his art talk to the viewer in the best way possible. Having started working with jewelry, today she… as calligraphy sculptor, creates small word forms that can be put on table, walls, or even hung. If you want your interior design to convey an actual message, using Valentine’s sculptures is a fantastic way to do that.

5. Mohd Afifi Ishak

ishak
This work by Mohd Afifi Ishak, student of Rochester Institute of Technology, is a concept of how to improve office desk environments. Instead of using regular Post-it Notes, he proposes organizing them in a dodecahedron, which not only adds some playful vibe to the interior, but also is very functional.

6. Danielle Chen

danielle-chen
Furniture and toy designer Danielle Chen has developed a witty and funny series of wooden figures called ‘Animal Race’. Consisting of three animals: bunny, giraffe and whale, moving by farting, peeing and pooping these toys take on a fresh and playful approach.

7. Ali Siavoshi

siavoshi
Ali Siavoshi is Iranian-born designer based in the UK. By creating these book lamps, he explicitly depicts the metaphor of knowledge enlightening the mind. The best thing about this fixture is that it allows you to use any book you want to be used as the shade.

8. Anna Karlin

karlin
Anna Karlin understands the unconventional. Creating both furniture and lighting, her signature style created by geometric designs and practiced proportions provides a fresh and fashionable vibe.
